I opened Tony Pugal Recruitment in Leeds in 1988. I have been the person picking up the phone ever since.
The agency is two of us. We place industrial temp staff into West Yorkshire factories, warehouses, and production sites. Most of the work comes from clients I have placed staff with for ten or fifteen years — operations managers who ring direct when sickness, holiday, or a sudden order leaves a shift uncovered.
It is a deliberately small practice. No portal, no team of consultants, no national footprint. I service the clients I have, well. New business arrives by referral, when it arrives at all.
What the agency takes on
Industrial temp and temp-to-perm. West Yorkshire only.
Factory operatives, production line workers, warehouse staff. FLT drivers — counterbalance, reach, pivot steer, side-loader. Panel wirers and light electrical assembly. Same-day cover for sickness, holiday, and no-shows. Project crew when an order spikes.
What the agency doesn't do: executive search, white-collar permanent recruitment, healthcare, placements outside West Yorkshire. The narrowness is the point. Industrial Leeds is a specific market — knowing the sites, the supervisors, and the realistic rates beats casting wide.
How the work runs
One number. One person on it.
When you call the office line, I pick up. When a shift drops out, I work the pool I have built over the years and ring you back with a name. If a worker won't fit your site, I say so before they are sent.
Workers stay because they are paid right and on time, PAYE direct, no umbrella. Clients stay because the person who took the call ten years ago is the person taking the call this morning. That is the whole of it.
